Power Wagon Door Outline

Postby dsoderstrom » Thu Nov 22, 2018 5:56 pm

I'm building the Power Wagon and was wondering how to go about making the groove for the outline of the doors. Any ideas would be appreciated.

i haven't done the power wagon but i have inscribed lines on other models

way one: only reasonably successful ... used a dremel and a burr against a rule or freehand along the line

way two: very good for straight lines ... found a 1/16inch router bit for the dremel and used a router base for it as well run against clamped guides (stewmac and lee valley are both sources for these)

way three: most suitable where there are curved lines required ... used a pyrography pen

there may be better ways that others can suggest

Thank you for your suggestions. After doing some experimenting I ended up doing it a different way.
I used the following steps:

1) Resawed material to thicknesses of 1/4" and 1/8".
2) Cut pieces out of the 1/4" and 1/8" material slightly larger than the doors.
3) Stuck the 1/8" and 1/4" pieces together using double back tape.
4) Used spray adhesive to put the pattern for the doors on the taped together pieces, making sure to put it on the 1/8" material side.
4) Cut the taped together pieces to the outline of the doors and cut out the window in the upper door half.
5) Seperated the 1/8" pieces from the 1/4" pieces.
6) Cut out the grooves on the 1/8" pieces on the scroll saw.
7) Glued the 1/8" pieces to the 1/4" pieces.
8) Sanded off the pattern.

The doors came out very nice with nice even grooves.
