48 Woodie Wagon

Postby PJonesy » Wed Dec 23, 2015 7:53 pm

This is my 48 Woodie Wagon. The dark timber is Walnut. The tires are ebonized with Holly inlaid for the white wall.
One photo pre oiled and two after applying tung oil.
I made the roof of thicker material than on the plan to get a more rounded effect like on the real car. Photos on the link below

G'day Jonesy,
Love the Woody mate!! I am new to this model making and have purchased 4 plans and kits (I am Australian), which arrived today. My background is as a registered builder with a life of carpentry and wood work as a hobby.
Can you (or anyone else) enlighten me please:
what is "Ebonised" (as the wheels), and also "Holly inlaid". Loved the natural look your finishes

Thank you, John Little (my.shed@iinet.net.au)

first let me say welcome John :D :D :D

ebonizing is a practice in which you can take some vinegar and steel wool mix them together let soak then apply mixture on wood such as oak you need a wood with high tannin you can also brew tea to add tannin to some woods

holly in lay is just some holly wood inlaid into wheel
Remember to always have FUN
